Migrating from Joomla to WordPress can seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools and a little bit of know-how, it can be done with relative ease. In this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps to successfully move your website from Joomla to WordPress.
Step 1: Backup your Joomla site
Before you begin migrating your Joomla website to WordPress, you’ll want to make sure that you’ve backed up the entire site. Depending on the size of your site and how often it gets updated, this could take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. We recommend using Akeeba Backup to create a full site backup of your Joomla website, as well as any additional files that you may want to transfer over. Step 2: Install and configure WordPress
Once you’ve backed up your Joomla site, it’s time to install WordPress on the same server as your current site. Most hosts will have a one-click install option for WordPress, or you can download the file and upload it to your server. Step 3: Import content from Joomla
In this step we need to import all of your Joomla-specific content into WordPress so that it can be re-published. This step is important because it will allow you to keep any links, categories or tags that are associated with the content you’ve migrated.
Step 4: Configure the Joomla to WordPress plugin
Once Joomla is installed, the next step is to configure the plugin. This is where you’ll tell us where your Joomla site is, how many posts and pages you want migrated over and what type of content you want to keep (categories, tags). You can also choose whether or not you want all of your comments imported over as well.
Step 5: Begin the migration process
Finally, you can begin the migration process. This will take some time depending on how much content you have and how fast your internet connection is.
